I've heard lots of complaints about this cruise, and also a great deal of unnecessary whingeing. (I commented on that whingeing in response to another review). For my part - and that of my husband - we consider that most of the negative reviewers only ever commented on what they did not like, and there is little postive comment on that that was done right.
Yes, there were problems at Stornoway, and even we, as independent passengers, got ashore for 3 hours - admittedly, noy long enough to take the proposed local buses that we intended to do, but nevertheless we still got that time ashore, and yes, Transocean do need to do better when getting folks onto tenders. We never had this problem when sailing on Arielle last year with the same company.
Those moaners failed to comment, e.g. on the events put on especially for them in the Killybegs community, when the local hotel held various demonstrations, including a craft show and a display of local youngsters doing Irish dancing.
The food on board was plentiful, varied and good. I have dietary problems and had no problems in finding plenty to suit my needs. Anyone who complains about the food really deserves to go without.
Yes, the staff were inexperienced to some extent, the majority being from the Ukraine, but what willing youngsters they were. Our cabin on Deck 5 was kept spotlessly clean, and the youngsters serving in the bistro were extremely polite and willing with the exception of one whom I really should have pointed out to her superiors.
We had one GENUINE complaint about a damaged suitcase that the young ladies on reception dealt with ably and satisfactorily, and we were generously reimbursed and able to acquire a replacement piece of luggage.
There was a lack of information from the bridge which we found disappointing. However, the captain ate most of the time in the bistro and was approachable for information.
Personally, we had a wonderful holiday. Ok, we couldn't get into Jersey, but those who complain ought to realise that the captain might be god of his vessel, but he doesn't control wind, weather, tides and current. I thought the itinerary was perfect - such diverse scenery, and places of interest. With the exception of Glengarif and the Edinburgh tattoo visits organised by the cruise company, we did our own thing, using local transport where we could, and will certainly travel with Transocean again. I really think that some of the time we must have been on a different vessel to some of those people who have reviewed this cruise.
